TILEPROXY

FS9/FSX. Tileproxy! Want PHOTO REAL scenery in your FSX or FS9 which is as good, as a GOOGLE-Earth source?  Well look no further than Tile Proxy.  and the best part, it's FREE.

Tile proxy - in it's simplest form, creates a NEW scenery library at the top of your existing default, and can be turned ON or OFF anytime.  So how does it work?  Simply, it downloads TILES for the areas that you FLY to and saves them, so the more places you fly to, the better your database will be.  Only ONCE will you ever have to download tiles, for the 1st route, and the 2nd, will ensure tiles are loaded faster and the resolution is sharp  Take a look at the below examples of what you could have - if given some patience setting this software up.

The below image I took sat at CYYZ - Toronto, which demonstrates the quality and detail that we're talking about here.

This image demonstrates the Tile Proxy running correctly, with a DOS window open in the background, which means 'tiles are being downloaded correctly'.

Enjoy!

Darryl, thanks for reminding us about TileProxy - it's been a while since I last tried it out. BUT...

I couldn't get it right even after changing the source locations. Whatever I tried, I couldn't get the last "circle" filled out.

Nevermind, I'll try it once again tonight... :) Hope it works this time.

My experience of using tileproxy and not getting it working, is usually always down to the firewall. I did a test and "allowed" this program through the firewall, which didnt work, but turning OFF the firewall, ...DID work. Give that a go, to ensure it does work on your system setup and then once that tick is in that box, perhaps 'tinker' with it to allow the right programs / dll's through the firewall when turning it back on again. It does work, and when it does, its amazing to fly globally anywhere and see some interesting sights. :-)

True... Tileproxy is very nice...
Unfortunately Google Earth is NOT available as a source...

Can anyone give some tips, regarding good sources? Is Yahoo Maps the best choice...

How is this on the frames

Photoscenery as reporting by MEGAsceneryEARTH has said that its better than standard default scenery. This is very similar, as it also uses tiles, and when i tested this on my FSX, i noticed 1st time around a slight blip in frames, as the tiles loaded, however, after that 1st time, u wont notice anything as a hit, only smoother frames which i had around 30-35. ds

not available, no. The cfg file allows for you to change to a bunch of servers, if memory serves me right, i think i remember seeing 5 in total to select, eg Yahoo maps, big, msn..etc...its user preference which ones you choose, in terms of quality, they're all the same. In terms of shadowing and colors, this is where it varies...and for that i found the default one they use is the better option.

Interesting. The only thing I don't like about Mega Scenery or perhaps tile proxy is lack of autogen buildings and trees. While it looks great from 2,000 ft +, it's not so nice from the ground (just too flat). But, this may look great in areas with no buildings (the Grand Canyon, the Rockies, Alaska, etc...). I'll look into this further. I'm sure the file sizes must be large too. I should have bought a larger HDD...256GB does not appear to be big enough.

It looks interesting. Is it possible to switch off this program during flight eg. I'm taxing and taking off without TileProxy, and then at 5000-6000 feets I'm enabling TileProxy to enjoy realistic environment on the ground.

short answer is yes

Does anyone here think it is possible to set tileproxy to write downloaded tiles directly into the default fsx scenery files instead ? Like for example: If you are flying in Europe somewhere let's say france and where ever you are there it downloards or say overwrites onto default scenery of eur/france-file into that location from VE , so then next time you fly there without TP you will see previously downloaded tiles through TP ! If still not real i guess nice idea instead of dedicating another disk or having a hige hdd for storing extra tiles along with default scenery and addons !
